The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve - Layton, Utah

Boardwalk To The Shorelands Pavilion - Layton, Utah
There's a really cool place near the Great Salt Lake out in Layton, Utah. The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve has a one-mile boardwalk through a large marsh near-ish the lake's shore. It's a bird sanctuary and a self-guided educational walk. And it's a beautiful spot.

It's easy to get to. Go south on 3200 West from Gentile Street and park in the small dirt lot at the end of the road. The boardwalk makes a one-mile loop through the marsh. Signs tell you about the location and the habitat. A wood tower gives you an elevated view of the preserve. It's a great place to spend an hour or two. And it's free!

This is not a popular tourist spot. Instead, you'll find a quiet and peaceful stroll through a beautiful slice of Utah (a largely ignored slice). It almost seems out of place. It's like a secret spot.

The Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve is a place that you must visit at least once. I think you'll want to come back again and again. I'm already planning my next visit.
